Measuring Impact with Roger Courtney

Increasingly third sector organisations are expected to be able to demonstrate the impact they have on society. With the development of the concept of the Programme for Government and the NI Executive’s commitment to Outcomes-Based Accountability, it seemed likely that the success of some government-funded organisations would depend on being able to measure their impact.

For many organisations, however, this kind of measurement feels much easier to talk about than to do. Others believe that measuring the impact of their organisation is actually impossible and/or inappropriate.

Some organisations are only at the very beginning of this journey, while a small number of others have put in place very impressive processes to measure the difference they make to people’s lives, which impresses funders and supporters.

This session will explore the range of ways that third sector organisations can measure impact and the strengths and weaknesses of each.
