Board Effectiveness Seminar

This session themed around Board Effectiveness hosted by Deloitte Belfast cover the following subject areas:

• The importance of Board Effectiveness in the context of the role of the trustee – this would cover some high profile examples of where Board Effectiveness has and has not worked well and the impact to the organisation and its stakeholder in both scenarios.
• Governance requirements for charities e.g. under Charity Commission guidance, that would require an effective Board.
• Types of Board Effectiveness reviews and their frequency
• Areas of Board Effectiveness we use to assess Boards: Engagement, composition, performance evaluation, chair’s leadership, governance structure, board dynamics, board reporting etc.
• The various methods we use to assess effectiveness: interviews, Board observations, desk top review, online questionnaires
• Outputs of a quality Board Effectiveness review and how they should be used.
• Next steps for any Board having conducted a Board Effectiveness review.

Real life examples will be discussed throughout the session to fully uncover how each process works in practice, why it is critical for Boards to complete and the benefits of conducting the reviews.
